3D Challenge #064 - Luxury Motor Yacht
Note: The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.
Before you start modeling and posting, please read carefully the 3D Challenge participating manual and pre-made or downloaded components are not allowed.
This week's challenge:
Luxury Motor Yacht
Again this will be a two week challenge. You are to model a Luxury Yacht of your choosing. It can be a real Yacht or a fictional, imaginative model. It must be a single hull model with engines.
Luxory yachts should have at least 3 decks: lower, main and fly deck and contain any special features that a Luxury Yacht may have.
Good luck to all, and have fun!!!

General Notes:
ReplyDeleteThere will no obligation for a blog entry anymore. It is still allowed to post a link to your model or additional images, but it is not required anymore to submit a model to the challenges. The 3D Warehouse tag is still required though and should be added when uploading a model to the Warehouse.
You can use the hyperlink code creator on the frontpage of the blog to create the code for a hyperlink in your message. Copy this code and paste it in the comment box on the place where your want the hyperlink to be.
Challenge suggestions are welcome to be placed on the blog. Items will be noted and compiled on the moderator’s list. At that point, the initial comment for the suggestion may be deleted so as to maintain a streamline challenge thread for use of posting entries for the challenge and comments to models. Challenge suggestions have always been welcomed and taken under consideration.
Please refrain from using background images in your models as it is the model itself that is being judged.
You'll notice a new link on the main page that directs you to the First Place Certificate area to which winners are able to print a certificate with a picture of their model detailing their excellence. You can access the page through the main page of the blog.

ReplyDeleteCan I model a Catamaran yacht
yes/no
Its a yacht just not a normal yacht I have always pondered over designing one since it was a possibilty for a challenge!
Also what is up with the two week challenges?
(cloudedzero)
Yes, I agree... what's with the two week challenges? You had a higher participation rate with the weekly challenge, and it only takes a couple days to make a decent model. I think we should return to the single week challenge... makes us work harder.
ReplyDeleteerrrrrkkkkkk(sound of car stopping really really really quick)
ReplyDeleteerror on my message Trimaran is what I ment Sorry
(cloudedzero)
@All
ReplyDeleteI've modified the main topic with more specification about challenge.
2 weeks challenge: saying "You had a higher participation rate with the weekly challenge" is not really true.
in the past 2 challenges we had 17 and 21 models and I consider it a good result.
Submission depends on challenge subject and not duration.
You can do a good model in 2 days but you can perfect it in 2 weeks.
@Cloudedzero
Model must be a single hull with motor.
Usually catamaran or trimaran are sailing yacht.
I think that many of the entries for the castle challenge are excellent models but, they can still be improved upon, especially mine. I could spend another two weeks on it, and feel it still needs more stuff. There is not a single model in the warehouse that could not be improved(heressy)!
ReplyDeleteFor instance: Black Veil Gate can come a long way further, its not even close to what I want yet, and I hope that I didn't post it too late. If this is what two weeks can do; imagine what one month can bring.
@TinkerToy
ReplyDeleteYour model "Black Veil Gate" has a great future. I encourage you to continue with it
@ cloudedzero
ReplyDeleteThank you; for your criticism on my Black Veil Gate model. Good to see that you are not afraid to say things that could offend me, for the sake of improving my model. I hope that everyone in the challenge can benefit from this attitude streak, and not just me.
By the way; I never claimed to have mastered SketchUp, no matter how you may have taken my previous comments. I merely stated that there is not much more for me to learn from the challenge anymore.
About negative faces:
I acknowledge that all of my faces were not oriented, thanks for pointing it out. The time crunch on my entry did not give enough time for me verify the cleanliness of the model, but the terrain was meant to be inverse to distinguish between items and groups when in monochrome. Of much greater concern to me is; that I also did not have time to trim groups to eachother. Rest assured that all of these items and concerns will be addressed in my posting after the challenge, which may come sooner if this entry is not accepted into challenge 63 for the sake of date discrepencies.
P.S. Sorry about the monster truck challenge. I think everyone would agree that your entry was by far the best, even if Dajani has more friends.
@tinkertoy
ReplyDeleteI dont mind giving input and I take critisism the same! I was joking about the mastery of Sketchup, oh and congrats on making it on the voting boards now its gonna be hard to choose who I wanna vote for...
oh I got it I'll vote for myself, wait I didnt enter the castle challenge!(dang should have made a real castle)
cloudedzero...
Oh Tinker toy were do you get drawhelix 1.3 or whatever looked but couldn't find it)

different rules and no way to cheat on who the victor will be
cloudedzero
@ cloudedzero
ReplyDeleteThe plug-in DrawHelix 1.3 can be found at Ruby Library Depot, along with many other great and useful ruby scripts for SketchUp. Take some time look through what they have to offer, you won't regret it.
@ cloudedzero
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get the link to your blog to work. Could you post a new one for me?

The challenge has not been posted yet due to not enough entries but as soon as there are ten members then I will issue the challenge, and trust me it is hard guaranteed!

@ cloudedzero
ReplyDeleteDude, maybe I am stepping out of my own boundaries here, by pointing this out; but I need to do it nonetheless. I admire your sketchin' skills, but it strikes me as a little bit unethical on your behalf to keep promoting your own challenge in the 3dChallenges blog. I, personally, would appreciate it if you keep a lower profile in that regard in the future.
@oscar
ReplyDeletesorry about that I mean no disgrace to this blog as it has made the sketcher I am today. Thanks for joining my blog though and I will keep it on the Down low for now on.
once again sorry

@ All
ReplyDeleteI saw modelposted by Sketchosaurus and I would like to give you an exact definition of luxory Yacht from wikipedia
@ Sketchosaurus
Please re-update your model according to a super yacht features.
ok.
ReplyDeleteSketchosaurus
Hey guys! It's been a long time since I've not participated. So, can I use 3D text in this model? :) THX
ReplyDelete@ Benjamin
ReplyDeleteYes you can
@All
Please pay attention to the dimensions of your yachts. Luxory yachts are not normal yacht.
Their lenght started from 20 mt. but modern one are above 40/45 mt., average length is about 60 mt. and about 5 decks.
I have removed my not long enough yacht from the challenge. This used to be fun for me, but it's not anymore.
ReplyDeleteOver the last couple of months I have been watching for a challenge I could enjoy doing (the last challenge I participated in was #40). I thought this was going to be it.
I don't mean any disrespect, but COSEDIMARCO©, you have really taken the fun out of this for me. Knit picking peoples work because they don't fit the exact description has really put a damper on the creative models that used to come out of this challenge. You should really reconsider how you are running these challenges, or step down.
Anyway, thanks for a good time, while it lasted, but I guess I am done here. It has been great fun working with the talented modelers here, and I am sad to be stepping away.
Thanks again,
C.J.
C.J. I'm sorry you will leave the challenge.
ReplyDeleteRules are made to give guidelines to the challenge otherwise everyone could post anything they would.
If there weren't people could post spaceship saying it'a a "boat", (and it happens in the past).
this is a suggestion for a future contest, timber frame building of some kind, although I have yet to make a building totally timber frame I will soon and if it was for one of your contests so much the better! I missed the castle one, which is a pity since I might have had a chance at winning, hear is a link to one of my models:
ReplyDeletehttp://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=b278349d15a4fcece3bec330da6c29db&prevstart=0#
its not the best one, but it can lead you to the others...
@COSEDIMARCO©
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else here, I get annoyed every now and then with the way things are run here. But I know you are taking time out of your day to make this work, and I really appreciate it.
I don't participate in every Challange, because I work shift work which makes life difficult for, but I generally at least start on each model.
I know you can't please everyone and you've taken consideration into making these Challenges available to everyone. And I thank you for that.
You are doing a great job, and I am glad you have put yourself out to do it, because I know I sure never would!
Keep up the great work.
My entry
ReplyDeleteUniverses
(cloudedzero)
I have made a new entry
ReplyDeleteI made my entry, you can see the picassa's page here .
ReplyDeleteI worked more with the furnitures which are inside, I created many things with a lot of curves like vases, by the way I also used some pictures, which explains the hule file size, anyway if you'd not want to download it, go to picassa ;)
Wealthy Yatch
SketchUp 7.0? Why didn't anyone tell me? I only knew it came out when I downloaded Sketchosaurus' entry and it said I needed the new version. Great new features, I just wish the ability to create dynamically resizing models feature came with the free version. My boat's coming along nicely though.
ReplyDelete@jedicharles
ReplyDeletewell upload 7.0 and finish your model cant wait to see what you have come up with
cloudedero
I deleted my model for improving it but I decided to stop working on that and just add a bedroom on the top of the boat (actually, there's just a bed and wall paper) ...
ReplyDeleteFinal Yacht
Challenge Idea
ReplyDeleteFuture vehicle open challenge
(i.e. car truck suv semi motorcycle)
just thought it would be cool to see what everyone thought the future would looke like
Entry: SoloCraft 52m Planing Hull Luxury Motor Yacht
ReplyDeleteI have an idea for Challenge #066.
ReplyDeleteA house or housing units made entirely out of, or incorporating disused shipping containers.
No new challenge yet? I suppose I'll work on my Kenobi Police Station... :)
ReplyDeletewhere's the next challenge!
ReplyDeleteHey,
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for the December challenge... Its now December 5th...
Thanks..
I am waiting for it too ... Please, tell us when you know you'll be late.
ReplyDeleteThanks .
I AM WAITING TO!
ReplyDeleteso, when is the next challenge going to be put up?
I keep checking this blog but not a peep as to what it might be.
What gives? Where is the new challenge?
ReplyDeleteWe could just do our own. How about we all model what we want and still follow the basic rules. "3D Challenge #065 - Freestyle Model" with tag: 3d challenge 065
ReplyDelete@Jedi Charles
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, I'd really like that .
The owner has just to be agree first...
We'll we can stage a temporary coup d'état and make the mods walk the plank. I'll just extend a plank off the side of me yacht. Arrrgh!
ReplyDeleteCosedimarco, Cosedimarco, where art thou Cosedimarco?
ReplyDelete@ All
ReplyDeleteI am aware of the recent criticism and discontentment with the challenge, and impatience being expressed on this blog lately.
I know this may leave you with nothing to do for a few days, but like what has been said: you can still work on something else. The moderators do alot of work to bring this challenge to us every week or two, and though sometimes it may be frustrating; please be patient and appreciative with them.
It is the least we should do, lest they decide their job is thankless, and stop doing this challenge.
@ Moderators
This challenge has brought joy, experience and growth to many SketchUp modelers, as is made evident by eager impatience. It seems this challenge has become a great part of our week, and wether participating or not, brings some enjoyable anticipation.
although; many of the contestants (myself included) would appreciate if there were a specific time and day of the week when we could expect the next challenge posting. If this were announced on the blog; it would also be helpful.
I know managing this blog must take alot of your time, and if the challenge needed to be placed later in the week; I am sure it would be acceptable. I don't think that it is missed days of challenge length that are a problem, I believe that those who participate just desire something to do in their free time.
I don't wish to see this issue, along with voting poll manipulation/abuse, drive people away from the challenge. I believe that the current frusrations could be absolved by: regular challenge posting and the winning models being determined by the moderators, instead of by popular vote by a 'prone to abuse voting system'.
These two things may bring more participation to the challenge, and greater satisfaction to all involved.
Once again, I appreciate all you have done to bring this challenge to us, and hope that these issues may be considered.
Thank you for your time.
@tinkertoy
ReplyDeleteI agree with your notion but the truth is that the voting system is the only way to actually vote for models if there was a person incharge of actually judging the winning model then someone could say that person chooses only people he likes or something like that!
yeah I know that doesnt sound logical but think about the actual known cheaters of this blog I know there is a lot of actual legit challengers but there is still alot of fibbers when it comes to voting.
@all
lately alot of members of this challege have forgotten that the people who keep up this blog dont get paid to here you nagg and complain! yes even I complain every now and then, but I can admit to that. This challenge it is a thankless job and the only reason they do it is becsause like me they love SU and they love to help other peolpe. Yes this blog has problems with people that think if they get a hundred votes that they will win and everyone will think that they are cool, well they are not and this blog has suffered because of it, I remember a year ago when there was at least 25 entries and now barely 15 doesnt sound like a loss too most people but think about those ten entries that arent there because they dont want to produce something that wont win because somebody has spoofed there votes to victory.
So me personally I would like to thank cosedemarco and loganc for taking the time out of there busy lifes to make a challenge blog to help me improve my modeling skills to were they are today by challenging me week after thankless week.
and to all who think I need to shut up and go away Bite me because Im awesome and I dont play to win, I play to challenge myself! Yes I have said this in the past and how many times have I won my first entry took third I was blown away, yes I was but I just didnt care because of all the positive feed back you get from entering this challenge. So to all think back to you first entry break it down and see how far you have come since you have been in this challenge and then think to yourself were would I be as a sketchup user without this blog...
cloudedzero
there is a model in the place you click to see the entries, that is not in the place to vote.
ReplyDeleteRoyal yacht by a guy named Christian perhaps added to late?
