It's impossible to know when the first musical instruments were made but since their invent they have had an undeniable impact on all of society. Musical instruments of all types, shapes and sizes can be played with variable degrees of difficulty and even if we don't play them we all know when we've heard a sour note. But not to fear, your job is to model one, not play one.

For this challenge you can model any know type of instrument you choose down to every subtle detail and nuance. Be creative and set the scene to really show off your skills. Thanks to mikZ for the great suggestion.

The term seaplane refers to any fixed-wing aircraft capable of taking off and landing on water. There are two main types of seaplanes are floatplanes (those with pontoons) and flying boats (those with fuselages that float). Both types may also have landing gear making them amphibious enabling them to use landing strips. You may model either type of seaplane or come up with your own concept. As long as it is a fixed-wing aircraft designed to take off and land on water, model to your hearts content!

It's a popular past-time for the American road trip; driving off the beaten path to see these, many times off-beat, attractions. They are rarely the destination, rather a distraction on the way to the intended destination. Whether it be the giant Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox Babe statues in the California Redwoods or to the many disputed World's Largest Ball of Twine's across the mid-west; these tourist traps continue to draw great attention.

Your job is to model one of these tourist traps: a real attraction or one of your own imagination. Remember, Standard Participation Rules apply.

Special 3D Challenge - Modern Bedroom

In this special challenge you will be tasked with modeling a modern themed bedroom. Your finished room should be completely furnished with a high level of detail. You are encouraged to decorate your room with artwork and accessories that fit in the modern theme. Your room should be free of clutter and use clean lines and geometric shapes. Be sure to include walls, ceiling and floors, light fixtures and windows to let in adequate light. Create scenes to show off all of your room.

The winner of this challenge will receive a professional rendering of their completed bedroom from our own Rahul Desai using V-Ray.  Because of this we ask that you submit your finished model without any renderings.

SketchUp 3D Challenge #135 - Municipal Airport

For this challenge your job is to create a municipal airport. Also known as a domestic or regional airport, a municipal airport is defined as a airport that only handles domestic flights within the same country and serve a small geographic region. These airports do not have any customs and immigration facilities needed by an international airport. Municipal airports are generally used for private aircraft, helicopters, smaller business jets and regional airlines.

Your municipal airport doesn't have to be very large hover it should include all the necessary structures used in the function of an airport. This should at a minimum include a control tower, a terminal and, of course, an airstrip with taxiways. There should be an area for loading passengers and places to park aircraft. If you need more information airports, a good place to start is Wikipedia.

Special rules for Challenge 135: you may use a few basic aircraft from the 3D Warehouse but they should be rather generic in appearance (the smaller the file size the better.) Do not modify any downloaded models besides scaling them to fit the scale of your model. All other standard rules apply.

Mr. Gosselin, a 9th Grade Art teacher, heard about 3D Challenge #331 - Banks and thought it would be a perfect exercise for his students to participate in the challenge. He wrote on our Facebook page to let us know about it and asked if the challenge could be extended to accommodate his teaching schedule. A compromise was reached and it was decided to create a special challenge for his students to allow their work to be voted on and to receive recognition for their work. So here we are...
