SketchUp 3D Challenge #174 - Water Slide

Thursday, 25 April 2013 - Monday, 06 May 2013

We're gearing up for Summer (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) and now it's time to start thinking about your summer activities. This challenge is all about water slides: The popular attraction at water parks everywhere. As usual, they come in all shapes and sizes from the common backyard pool slide to the not so common 164 foot tall certified Guinness World Record largest water slide, Kilimanjaro, in Brazil.

There are many kinds of slides for you to model and you are free to create something entirely unique. (Note: Log rides or log flume rides are not considered water slides for the purposes of the challenge.) For a list and a description of the different kinds of water slides, be sure to read the WikiPedia article on water slides.

Standard Participation Rules apply. Thanks to HenkieTenk for the suggestion.

SketchUp 3D Challenge #173 - Ferris Wheel

Monday, 15 April 2013 - Thursday, 25 April 2013

The first wheel to be called a Ferris wheel was designed and built by George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. for The Chicago World's Fair in 1893. Sadly, he died of typhoid fever at age 37, just three years after the wheel was constructed. In 1906, after being part of the St. Louis World's Fair, the wheel was blown up with dynamite in a controlled demolition. Since then, the Ferris wheel has been a popular attraction at many fairs and parks all around the world.

For this challenge you are free to model an existing Ferris wheel or design one from the ground up using your imagination. Feel free to push the boundaries to come up with something completely unique.

Standard Participation Rules apply. Thanks to DalexD for the great suggestion.

SketchUp 3D Challenge #172 - Fireplace

Thursday, 04 April 2013 - Monday, 15 April 2013

The name, fireplace, says exactly what they do. They are a structure designed to contain a fire and to divert the hot exhaust and smoke safely away from those nearby. In the past, they served primarily for heating and cooking in the home. Now, most fireplaces are used for the relaxing glow they make as more efficient ways of heating and cooking have come to be. Traditionally, their primary fuel has been cut wood but can also be fuelled by wood pellets, propane, natural gas and even electricity.

In this challenge you are allowed to model and design any kind of fireplace you like. You may model an indoor or outdoor fireplace but it must use some sort of chimney or other means of diverting smoke.

Standard Participation Rules apply. Thanks to samothrace41 for the suggestion.
