SketchUp 3D Challenge #166 - Laser Sword

Thursday, 31 January 2013 - Monday, 11 February 2013

Laser swords are a popular fixture of science fiction that many wish existed but are unlikely to become a reality (at least within our current constraints and understanding of physics). At least for now reasonable, albeit non-functional, facsimiles of laser swords are available for cosplay, toy and novelty reasons.

For the purposes of this challenge you are allowed to model an existing laser sword design or create one from your own imagination. From the grip, to the pommel, to the activation switch, to the emitter, it is all up to you... May the {insert mystical power source} be with you, always.

Standard Participation Rules apply.

SketchUp 3D Challenge #165 = Diner

Monday, 21 January 2013 - Thursday, 31 January 2013

According to WikiPedia...

A diner is a prefabricated restaurant building characteristic of North America, especially in the Midwest, in New York City, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and in other areas of the Northeastern United States, although examples can be found throughout the United States, Canada and parts of Western Europe. Some people apply the term not only to the prefabricated structures, but also to restaurants that serve cuisine similar to traditional diner cuisine even if they are located in more traditional types of buildings. Diners are characterized by offering a wide range of foods, mostly American, a casual atmosphere, a counter, and late operating hours. "Classic American Diners" are often characterized by an exterior layer of stainless steel—a feature unique to diner architecture.

For the purposes of this challenge, the definition of diner may expand to include drive-in restaurants (but not drive-thrus, note the distinction). The most important thing to remember is to have fun by challenging your 3D modeling skills.

SketchUp 3D Challenge #164 - Motorcycles

Thursday, 10 January 2013 - Monday, 21 January 2013

Motorcycles (also motorbike) can be a fun and practical way to get around from place to place. There is an estimated 200 million motorized bike world wide which amounts to 33 per every 1000 people on Earth. There are three major types of motorcycles: street, off-road and dual purpose. Each type can be further broken down into many sub types including: street, sport, cruising, touring, sport touring, motocross, trail, off-road racing, drag racing and road racing.

For the purposes of this challenge, you are to model any type of motorcycle you like as long as it has just two wheels (wheelie-bar wheels okay on dragster bikes). It must be a true motorcycle and not a moped or scooter as in Challenge #035.

Standard Participation Rules apply. Thanks to GoldenSim for the topic suggestion.

Correction: Challenge #141 - Hydrofoils Winner

While looking for challenge suggestions in the blog I discovered an error made when calculating the votes for challenge #141 - Hydrofoils. Because of the discrepancy, DALEXD was given the win instead of Crazy Eyes who actually received the most votes. I apologize for the error.

To be fair, DALEXD will continue to share the win with Crazy Eyes.
