Such a beautiful Challenge number really deserves a beautiful subject. So we got working, to find the best subject for this cool new Challenge. What did we come up with? A firetruck, because the number 1-1-1 is the official emergency telephone number in New Zealand. So get those brains working! The trucks need to get to the emergency ASAP!

3D Warehouse tag: "3D Challenge 111"

Cathy Tritschler with her exceptional model Poisson-lanterne femelle. Good job Cathy! Also view her great model of a Halloween Pumpkin Fishy, which was also featured on Zoungy's Sketchup Island blog!

  1. i know i haven't "played along" in a while but when i seen this challenge i thought bah i won't have the time to do this one because of the detail it will take - i thought to myself we just had a challenge for public transportation then a car and now a firetruck - then i read the reason and think it's a good idea for the challenge - i just don't think i have the time to do it - maybe a sugestion for an upcoming challenge - something that doesn't really require a certain object or item - like maybe what your house and yard would look like if it were on mars or jupiter - something that will take nothing but imagination - the fish was good idea i wish i would have seen it in time to submit - anyway i'll try and submit this week if i can come up with something

  2. Thank you Mbuzzyk! I hope you'll find some time to build something. It doesn't matter if it's any good, it's all about the fun, isn't it? Have you voted yet?

  6. I was looking forward to this challenge but unfortunately my computer is broken beyond repair. I am pretty much out of commission until my new one arrives. The laptop I am using temporarily is too old to run SketchUp. Nice work on the entries guys.

Some of you may remember me mentioning the Starship project I was working on a while back. Well, I am pleased to say that it is finally done. It is too big (23MB) to upload it to the 3D Warehouse but if you would like to see it you can download it in a zip file (7.72MB zipped) through MediaFire at the link beloW:

Tell me what you think. Note: It is a SketchUp 8 file so you will need to have version 8. When you use the walk tool to walk down the main corridor hold down the ALT key to avoid collision with hidden layers.

  7. I've just found out that I'm the winner, thanks a lot guys !

Jedi Charles, I'm very impressed by your very detailed work on your Starship, how long did it take to make this vessel?

    It's a pity it's too heavy for the 3DWarehouse.

  8. Thanks Cathy,
It took me over a year to finish it. I did take a lot of breaks from working on it throughout that period of time. I suppose I could have done it in less than a quarter of the time had I focused primarily on it. I have a physical disability that prevents me from using a traditional mouse and keyboard so all of the modeling was done with a special camera based mouse that tracks my head movements and an onscreen keyboard. It is much slower to model stuff this way than with regular equipment and my specific modelling technique also takes more time. It was fun to do and I already have plans in the works for two more ships. Thanks for your comments.

  9. Hey Jedi Charles!

Respect for this great model! Have to admit I haven't seen the 3D model, still use SU7. But I followed your progress via Picasa and your site www.jedicharles.com . I downloaded the zipfile, so when I'm using SU8, I'll have a look. Tried big models too, but I got too quickly bored :D, so the Challenges are great for me.
Keep on uploading these good models!

Btw, can't you split the model in three parts? Then it's possible to upload it.

  10. I think I will post a version with a gutted interior and direct people to the full version instead of in parts. There are so many shared components throughout the interior that when pieced back together it might make for slow performance in SketchUp. Thanks for the suggestion.
