All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) can get you where you need to go and have fun while doing it. They are defined by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a vehicle that travels on low-pressure tires, with a seat that is straddled by the operator, along with handlebars for steering control. For the purpose of this challenge you will be modeling an ATV that fits that definition. It must have at least 3 wheels and designed to be ridden like a motorcycle.

Standard Participation Rules apply. As a reminder, the rules can be found in the menu below the header of all pages of the blog.

Thanks to GoldenSim, the winner of challenge #148, for suggesting this topic.

From Wikipedia:

Tree houses, treehouses, or tree forts, are platforms or buildings constructed around, next to or among the trunk or branches of one or more mature trees while above ground level. Tree houses can be used for recreation, work space, habitation, observation or as temporary retreats.

Keeping in the theme of Summer and outdoors activity, your task is to design and model your very own tree house. It can be any shape or size as long as the entire structure is supported by one or more trees.

Thanks to HenkieTenk for the suggestion.

Because of the complexity of this challenge, you are allowed two additional days to complete your entries. Standard Participation Rules apply.

SketchUp 3D Challenge #145 - Sustainable Energy

Sunday, 03 June 2012 - Wednesday, 13 June 2012

View Entry Models | Status: Finished

From WikiPedia:

"Sustainable energy is the sustainable provision of energy that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Technologies that promote sustainable energy include renewable energy sources, such as hydroelectricity, solar energy, wind energy, wave power, geothermal energy, and tidal power, and also technologies designed to improve energy efficiency."

Your job is not to model "sustainable energy" but to model something, man made, that is designed to produce sustainable energy. It can be real, conceptual or something out of your own imagination. Just be sure to use your energy wisely because this challenge's lights will go out on Wednesday, 13 June 2012.

I, your trusty (most of the time) challenge administrator, JediCharles, am in the doghouse this week. That's right, I completely spaced the creation of this weeks challenge in time for yesterday. So because of this, challenge #144's topic is the Ultimate Doghouse.

Use your creativity to envision and design your interpretation of the ultimate doghouse. It can be any size or shape as long it will safely and securely house man's best friend. Don't be afraid to go over the top as the only budget to contend with is your time.

Power tools, where would we without them? Some people would still have all 20 fingers and toes (even though they would be covered in blisters). There are all kinds of power tools to choose from and plenty of people who don't know how to use them. In this challenge you don't have to worry about that; the only tools required are your brains, your computer and, of course, Google SketchUp!

For a list of potential tools to model, be sure to check out the WikiPedia article on power tools. Standard Participation Rules apply.

SketchUp 3D Challenge #142 - Observation Towers

Sunday, 22 April 2012 - Wednesday, 2 May 2012

View Entry Models | Status: Finished

In light of the 50th Anniversary of the Seattle Space Needle, Challenge #142 is to model an observation tower.  While the Space Needle has its trademark saucer shape, observation towers come in all shapes and sizes and serve a variety of purposes. Many of them double as radio towers and include restaurants and sometimes high speed thrill rides.

Your job is to model either an existing structure or design one out of your own creation. Feel free to make them as tall as you want and let your imagination escape you. The more detail the better... Be sure to make some nice scenes to show off your work. The most important thing is that you feel challenged and have fun.

Standard Participation Rules apply.
