Just finished my wooden toy. I got right on it because I'm going to be away from the computer for a while. This is my first attempt at trying to list for this forum. I hope it's correct.
ReplyDeletehttp://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=fc7018f33a446026c1ca96a73599ca7e&prevstart=0
This is the URL on 3D warehouse. Would someone try it and let me know how it works. Thanks
I'm the Don in the listing.
All right! So-just to confirm (i made a mistake with the previous challenge)-you create the model, upload it to the 3d warehouse with tag "3d challenge 002", then post a link to it in this comments section? In the previous challenge I think I forgot to post the link in the comments section of the post. Thx,
ReplyDeleterbedi100
Hello. I just completed my first SketchUp project, a wooden toy fire truck. It is at http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=953dad33689d4c339fd98f69b4e5ae4e.
ReplyDeleteHello all,
ReplyDeleteI guess the wooden fire truck seems to be an all time favorite. Good to see some submissions so fast after the begin of the challenge. Remember that you may improve your model until the deadline if you want to.
A note for everybody:
If you want to create a clickable link on the blog to your model in the warehouse, here's how to do it:
[a href="warehouselink"]linkname[/a]
* Replace the [ and ] by < and >
warehouselink = url from your model on the 3D warehouse
linkname = the clickable text on the blog
@rbedi100: This is not a problem, that's why you have to put a specific tag in your model. This way we can find all submissions to the challenge if somebody forgets to post a message on the blog. Of course we want everybody to post a message so everybody knows about your submission.
@Don & Claudia East: You didn't add the "3d challenge 002" yet in the warehouse. You can still add that by editing your model in the warehouse, as the owner you can do that.
J-m@n
J-m@m, Thanks for the information on putting tag on my post. I would also like to try the short link. I understand about making the programing language change. However can you tell how to get to the spot where I can make the changes. I'm not a programer, But am always ready to learn.
ReplyDeleteThanks Don
Hello Don & Claudia East,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, my previous post consist of two different notes. The first one tells you how to create a link on this blog to your model on the warehouse without seeing the complete url, like this:
model of Don & Claudia East
The second note to you personal was about adding the "3d challenge 002" tag to your model. When uploading your model to the warehouse you need to add some information like name, discription, tags, etc. We would like everybody to add the tag "3d challenge 002" (for this challenge) to the form. If you allready uploaded the model you can still change this information. Go the the page of your model by following the link above. Make sure you are logged in at the right top of the screen. Now, above the large image of your model there should be the option "edit". Click on it and add the line "3d challenge 002" in the box below "tags" (without the ""). Click on update and you're ready and we are happy ;)
Good luck
J-m@n
Friends, I feel the need to make an emphasis here about the required tag in your models. It should be something like this:
ReplyDelete3d challenge xxx
The x's are to be replaced with the current challenge the model pertains to. Our current challenge is 002. The reason for this is that it makes it easier for us all to find the models in the Warehouse (which is already a quite large repository).
Looking forward to this one! I had short notice on the other one so I'm making sure I post well in advance this time!
ReplyDeleteHere's my model so far. I wanted to get this in early so no one else would do this!!! :) I will be adding to it over the next week.

All right, thanks J-Man. One more thing-how will we be notified of the winner for this challenge and the previous challenge? Will it be on this forum? Thx again,
ReplyDeleterbedi100
Another wooden toy by me, mjrbaseball: What is more classic than blocks?
ReplyDelete@rbedi100,
ReplyDeleteOn the frontpage of the blog there will be a poll to vote for the models. You can vote in this poll until the next challenge (this one) ends and the winner automatically appears in the poll.
J-m@n
Hay everyone, Way cool things are starting to show up. Can't wait to see all the entries. I guess the kid will last in all of us forever. I've had two new ideas pop into my head. Is it Ok to enter more than one entry?
ReplyDeleteDon
Hello All
ReplyDeleteYes- you can enter as many models as you would like.

Bob
I've updated my train track. It's too much fun!! I feel like a little kid again! I had to stop the track expansion somewhere, or else I'd keep building for weeks....! I'll add cars, signs and trees later... and maybe more trains??

Thanks again J-man, but there's no poll! I'm going to be out of town with no computer access after the 13th so please tell us how to vote before then. Thx,
ReplyDeleterbedi100
Hello rbedi100,
ReplyDeleteI know there are no new polls yet while there should be a voting poll and a new subject poll. Remember that for the moderators this whole blog thing is also new. We also have to figure out how to proper manage this, so the first challenges might not be as smooth as we hope they should be. Concering the polls it looks like I don't have the proper rights to change them. We will discuss about this in the moderator team and hope to find a solution fast...
J-m@n
All right! Thanks, J-M@n.

Again not much time to create a really nice model but this wooden airplane will have to do for this challenge...

J-m@n
Alright, well here's my attempt.
ReplyDeleteHello all,
ReplyDeleteBecause of a wrong setting on the blog some comments were put on hold and needed approval by admins before being posted. No messages were lost but just not posted until approved. All settings should be OK now and all comments on hold were published.
@Jon: You made a very nice car there, way better than my airplane... don't forget to put the proper tag to your model ("3d challenge 002", without the quotes).
J-m@n
here's my modest contribution, a little wooden rocking (?) horse. it's not that spectacular, just cute i think!

Hello all,
ReplyDeleteAs you might have noticed we're having some problems with the polls. To give everybody enough time to vote for the next challenge subject and a winner for the previous challenge we extended the deadline of this challenge with one week. The new due date for this challenge will be Aug. 22. The next challenges should last one week as normal again.
J-m@n
Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteThis is a great place. I just recently started using Sketchup 3D and I'm definitely addicted! So here's my wooden plane.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteHere's one I just kind of eye-balled from a photo.

Here is my first try at a real model with sketch up. I'm starting to get the hang of it!

Very nice model James. Don't forgot to add the 3d challenge 002 tag to your model.
ReplyDeleteYou can do this by going to your model while signed in, and clicking the edit button beneath the title. Then add the tag: 3d challenge 002

Hello Rahul,
ReplyDeleteThe first post of me on this challenge discribes the tags to create a hyperlink in your comment. If you have any questions about it, after reading it, let me know.
J-m@n
helo again.. could the admin please please please make the links on my previous posts a clickable link?? i cant seem to find the button where to edit previous posts.. (or is it even there?? :D )
ReplyDeletethank u very much!!! :)
Hello exwhyzed
ReplyDeleteThe link you supplied in your posting is fine and anyone can copy and paste it to get to your model.
j-m@n has a posting (7 down from the top) that explains how to make a clickable link.
From j-m@n's posting....
[a href="warehouselink"]linkname [/a]
* Replace the open and close brackets [ with an open and close carrot < as shown below.
[ and ] by < and >
warehouselink = url from your model on the 3D warehouse
linkname = the clickable text on the blog - this could be called "My Model" or whatever you want to have show on the blog.
Give it a try and delete it if it does not work. Again, as j-m@n mentioned above, any trouble and we will assist. It should work like this:
Model by exwhyzed
You can also make a link to the picture you have using the same method.
Bluesdog
Bob
thank u very much BOB! really appreciate it!!
ReplyDeletei think i missed J-m@ns's lil tut there! ;)
i really don't like to over crowd blog pages but anyways HERE's the link to the image!!
Just uploaded my first model for the challenge.
ReplyDeleteYou can find it at
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=d47eb1a0485b94f6d4ea3f4c41b1b9bb&prevstart=0
Hope I did all this right!
Just a note - there are a couple model that are not tagged correctly. The 3D Warehouse tags are case-sensitive, so "3D challenge 002" and "3d challenge 002" are not the same tag.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the correct tag is "3d challenge 002", not "3d challenge #002" - check your tags (randy and don!)
Here's what I have so far... Lincoln Logs! Looks easy but alignment isn't as simple as it would seem. It's still in progress, I have to make a horse and person to go with the house/stable Here it is
ReplyDeleteHere is my model of a wooden toy crane. This was a fun challenge. The renders are done in Kerkythea.
ReplyDeletePosting entries on this site is not as easy as on the old site. Thanks to all those who posted tips on adding links

Lot of fun entries this week, but this is a fun topic. Personally I could probably enjoy making wooden toys in SketchUp for many weeks, it's just one of those topics. In any case, here is another WIP that probably won't be finished. (sigh).
ReplyDeleteWooden Train
This challenge is like Lay's Potato Chip are supposed to be... I couldn't stop with just one.
ReplyDeleteI see Elijah has made a Lincoln Logs drawing. Nice.
I posted mine before I saw his, @

Thanks to Jim for setting me straight on proper
challenge nomenclature. Would have been a shame to have gotten as far as I have without completing the process!
There are still some details that could be added, but this is as finished as it's going to get for now. Probably more detail than need be for a wooden toy, some of the other toys everyone has submitted are fantastic for really looking like solid wood toys. Kudos all around, looking in the warehouse shows a lot of really good entries.

Hello All
ReplyDeleteHere is my simple submission for the wooden toy challenge. Dominoes.
These are used in strategic game play, but the toy aspect is defined in the description in the warehouse.

Hello all,
ReplyDeleteThe voting poll is online and here are all the submissions for this challenge. Watch them all before voting for the one you think is the best. Remember that it's the quality of the model that counts, not a fancy color (turn textures of when judging a model).

i actually made it to 2nd place :) only 2 votes though...
ReplyDeletei'm just wondering as to why the winner had been disqualified..?
Hello rabbeltje,
ReplyDeleteThe entry of 3d challenge was "disqualified" by request, as it was not supposed to end up in the voting poll. By mistake it did end up in the poll and we were unable to delete it without losing all other votes.
