3D Challenge #019 - Magnetic levitation train
Note: Please read the guidelines for participating in the challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.
This week's challenge:
Magnetic levitation train
Magnetic levitation (maglev), a method by which an object is suspended with no support other than magnetic fields. This principle makes a train float in air which eliminates friction that wheels normally would produce. Without that friction, higher speeds are possible. The current speed record of a maglev train is 581 km/h or 361 mph. The challenge this week is to create such a maglev train from an existing or imaginary design.
Beside the weekly challenge, we would like you to take notice of an additional challenge by Aidan Chopra from the Sketchupdate blog. For that challenge you have to create a new sleigh for Santa. More information about the challenge and how to participate can be found at the Sketchupdate blog.
Good luck ALL!

You can use the hyperlink code creater on the frontpage of the blog to create the code for a hyperlink in your message. Copy this code and paste it in the comment box on the place where your want the hyperlink to be. More information about participating with the challenges and uploading models to the Warehouse can be found in the "3D Challenge participation manual" in the useful links section on the frontpage of the blog.

Challenge suggestions have always been welcomed and taken under consideration.
In case you missed it, view this challenge header post for more information about an additional challenge at the Sketchupdate blog.
Good luck with the challenge(s)...
On an aside note, the Official Google SketchUp Blog is hosting a challenge that, I know, a lot of you will find very interesting. Aidan, the owner of that blog, says about it:
ReplyDelete"Last week, I spent the better part of three days obsessing about modeling curvy, lumpy things in SketchUp. Given the time of year, I started with Saint Nick himself. That model was successful, so I worked on some reindeer next. (Did I mention that I love my job?)
Having modeled Santa and his magical herd, I'm opening up the next part of the project to the rest of the world: Santa needs a sleigh. Anyone (young, old, young at heart) is invited to design a sleigh for Santa. I've created a collection in the 3D Warehouse to host the designs. Feel free to use the Santa and reindeer models that I built to dress up your sleigh -- it'll provide me with a legitimate reason for having spent so much time creating them."
I've added a link to the original post in the links section of this blog so, go and have a look. I hope we will see a lot of interesting models from you all.
Don't know if you guys have already noticed, but the Google SketchUp 3d Challenge models are now one of 3D Warehouse's Featured Collections. Kudos, on behalf of the mods team, to all of you for your good work!
ReplyDeleteHi Oscar,
ReplyDeleteagain, I can't find my model: this time it's my satellite (challenge 13); it's in 'my models' and also in the 013 collection, but not in the collection you mentioned above.
Are the servers still under maintainance?
Nase, I already reported the omission to Google.
ReplyDeleteHere's an example of a maglev train based on the transrapid maglev. I created this model earlier this year, but I post it only as an example as it fits the current challenge. As usual it won't be used for voting.

ReplyDeleteHello ALL
ReplyDeletePLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - Lets not all name our models Maglev. This will only confuse the voting poll. Try to give it a unique name ex: Silver Bullet, Cross Continent, French Maglev etc...
You can add maglev in the name, but try to make it different than the other models in the warehouse.
If you want to rename your model, just go to the warehouse and use the edit function. You will not need to repost the link on the blog (link will remain intact).
Thanks

Hi everybody!
ReplyDeleteI made an entry for this challenge! I hope u like it!
train
This is my entry for this challenge.
ReplyDeleteRed Streak
can't wait to see who wins...
ReplyDeleteOk, so here's my entry. I decided against pursuing the original look of
ReplyDeletea MagLev train and do something different, taking advantage of the freedom given by the challenge for creating an imaginery design. A sci-fi style came to mind but it seemed too obvious since MagLevs do look a bit futuristic even in these modern days. So I decided do go oldschool. Better yet, Steampunk. So here is The SteamLev Express, A Steampunk MagLev
Here's an image of the model:

And one touched a bit with Photoshop:

I hope you like it :)
great spin on the classic mag lev, xayzer. Your attention to detail really adds to the model!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Flaming Flamingos :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Xayzer
ReplyDeleteWelcome home. Great work. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who likes steampunked stuff.
Thanks for the welcome Nase, this is my first participation in the 3d challenge since it changed sites. I'm glad you like the model.
ReplyDeleteHowdy All, Just a quick model this time.

ReplyDeleteMaglev by Iceman
I posted my Maglev in the 3D Warehouse. This is the first time i've ever entered a 3D challenge. I'm not fully pleased with the interior if I'm honest, but I'm really pleased with the exterior. Oh well, here's the link:

Hello Iceman
ReplyDeleteYou need to add the tag "3d challenge 019" (without quotes) to your model in the warehouse. If you need further guidance, take a look at 3D Challenge participation manual located under usefull links on blog page (upper right side). It is explained on page 7.
You do not need to upload the model again, just use the edit model function in the warehouse and add the tag in the tag section.
Thanks
