3D Challenge #039 - Rowing Boat

Note: Please read the guidelines for participating in the challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.

This week's challenge:

Rowing Boat

The original rowing boat dates back many, many years and was typically made of wood. Now, there are many different styles and materials used when constructing a row boat. Many are still made using wood and the original style of boat, but can also be made from carbon fiber and other synthetic materials. They can be long and narrow for racing, or short and wide for a traditional feel. No matter the style or type, your model should be a row boat. No motors or any other type of engine. It may be as detailed and intricate as you like.

Good Luck and have fun!

3D Challenge #038 - Sci-fi power plant

Note: Please read the guidelines for participating in the challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.

This week's challenge:

Sci-fi power plant

Another week, another challenge. This week we will have to use our imagination to create our models. The challenge is to create an imaginary power source and to design a power station around it. As with all the power plants, the goal is to produce electricity on an industrial scale. The size, shape, location and other design principles are free to adapt to your power source. Maybe your power plant has to be positioned on the surface of mars or maybe on the bottom of the sea, depending on the power source you created. As the challenge is highly imaginary there are no restrictions this week. Jump in and start modeling!

Good luck ALL!

3D Challenge #037 - Air traffic control tower

Note: Please read the guidelines for participating in the challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.

This week's challenge:

Air traffic control tower

From the viewpoint of organization, an airport is a complicated structure. There are a lot of different flows which needs to be managed, like people, luggage, cargo and of course the airplanes themself. The airplanes are managed by the air traffic control (ATC). These people control all the airplanes on the ground and the flying planes in a certain range around the airport. Although they use a lot of digital information, the primary method of controlling the immediate airport environment is by visual observation. For this task almost every airport has a recognizable air traffic control tower. For this challenge we're going to create such a tower for the air traffic controllers. Of course it needs to be high enough to see the largest part of the airport and has to have a lot of windows for a 360 degrees view around the tower. All the other parts of the design are free to choose.

Good luck ALL!

3D Challenge #036 - USB memory stick

Note: Please read the guidelines for participating in the challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.

This week's challenge:

USB memory stick

This week we are going to model the present day replacement of the good old floppy disk. The USB memory stick or flash drive is not that old yet as it was introduced in 2000. The main improvements of the memory stick, compared to the floppy disk, are it's size and reliability. Eight years after it's introduction they have almost completely replaced the floppy disks and are a standard besides the CD and DVD. They come in very various types like funny USB sticks, fingerprint USB sticks, creditcard shaped USB sticks and others. This week the object again is very small, so we expect a high level of detail. Textures are not allowed this week, not even for a brand name. This means that all the geometry, including text, has to be created in Sketchup. The design of your memory stick is free to choose.

Good luck ALL!

3D Challenge #035 - Scooter / moped

Note: Please read the guidelines for participating in the challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.

This week's challenge:

Scooter / moped

This week we are going to model a small engine powered vehicle, the scooter or moped. A scooter or moped is a style of two-wheeled motor vehicle with certain design characteristics such as a step-through frame, small wheels and a small engine. These characteristics are the differences between a scooter and a motorcycle. The scooter was designed as a short range motor powered vehicle, which could be easily used in a city environment. The motorcycle on the contrary, was designed for speed and a relative long range. Modern scooters cover a broad spectrum of designs: step-through or step-over frames, small or large wheels, front fairings or floor boards, under-seat storage or not, and manual or automatic transmissions. Still famous around the world are the scooters from the italian manufacturer Vespa. The only restriction for this challenge is that motorcycles are not allowed, the challenge is about scooters or mopeds.

Good luck ALL!
