3D Challenge #058 - Hovercraft
Note: The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.
Before you start modeling and posting, please read carefully the 3D Challenge participating manual and pre-made or downloaded components are not allowed.
This week's challenge:
Hovercraft
A hovercraft, or air-cushion vehicle (ACV), is an amphibious vehicle or craft, designed to travel over any sufficiently smooth surface supported by a cushion of slowly moving, high-pressure air, ejected downwards against the surface close below it. Essentially all practical systems use a skirt to follow the terrain and contain the air.
It could be a one person or a multi persons vehicle, real or fantasy, but you must include air cushion and turbines. When modeling, try to keep in mind some of many details that Hovercrafts have that may not be. These may be things you wish to include in your model.
As always, have fun and enjoy your modeling time!

General Notes:
ReplyDeleteThere will no obligation for a blog entry anymore. It is still allowed to post a link to your model or additional images, but it is not required anymore to submit a model to the challenges. The 3D Warehouse tag is still required though and should be added when uploading a model to the Warehouse.
You can use the hyperlink code creator on the frontpage of the blog to create the code for a hyperlink in your message. Copy this code and paste it in the comment box on the place where your want the hyperlink to be.
Challenge suggestions are welcome to be placed on the blog. Items will be noted and compiled on the moderator’s list. At that point, the initial comment for the suggestion may be deleted so as to maintain a streamline challenge thread for use of posting entries for the challenge and comments to models. Challenge suggestions have always been welcomed and taken under consideration.
Please refrain from using background images in your models as it is the model itself that is being judged.
You'll notice a new link on the main page that directs you to the First Place Certificate area to which winners are able to print a certificate with a picture of their model detailing their excellence. You can access the page here or through the main page of the blog.
Have Fun!!!!
Hello everyone: As fate would have it, and in all honesty and fairness I started drawing the very same Challenge project a few days ago and posted it today. Does that mean I don't qualify as an entrant? I'm oKay with that. Maybe next time. Reason: getting busy 'round here. Please check out my "ewould have been" sketch. Comments R welcome as always. The Title: Atlantia I and II. Yup. Two of 'em. One up and one down. Huh? Check 'em out...thankx.
ReplyDeletePS: Good luck to one and all on this weeks Challenge.
Hmmmm: Am I the only one that has something to say. Very strange. Odd indeed. Changed my mind as far as not entering. I posted and entered with Red Cross Hovercraft... to the Rescue.

I really like the challenges you guys pick out! I just wish I could have come up with a cooler idea for a model.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'd like to thank those kind people who are voting for my Dam model! You guys are alright in my book. :)

ReplyDeleteAWESOME!
@everyone
I just read the posts on blog for helicopter challenge. I just want to clear up something about my Batcopter model: I never tried to "cheat". I did send a link to some people in my office so they could see my entry. So if they voted, I'm sorry. I won't be sending out an email about my entry anymore. Also, I happened to be online when the voting for the helicopter was about to end, and I noticed that I wasn't winning ... but a few people in the last 3 minutes must of changed their vote because the because my vote total went up the exact amount the second total went down. I don't know where these votes came from, but if they discouraged you guys in anyway from modeling for the challenges, I am sorry that I recieved them. I honestly want to say I really think you all are amazing modelers. Esp. cloudedzero, Mr. Jumpman V.2, Crazy Eyes, a.j.unknow and JediCharles. I learn soooo much from you all by downloading your models and 'ripping' them apart to see how you do it! You guys are great! Again, please accept my apologies and keep on rockin' the awesome models!
awww...shuks...

This is my first submission to the challenges. I tried once before but I was late on submitting. But I did end up with a cool model that time. Thanks to the common mistakes and other tutorials found on the SketchUp blogs, I have made my models light weight. This entry weighs in at 111kb. It seemed like it was 20% modeling and 80% clean up this time around.
ReplyDeleteDock James' Hovercraft
This challenge gives me a base for creativity that helps me practice SketchUp. It can be hard to get inspiration /ideas for models. And having a group that says "Try to SketchUp this!" certainly helps.
Thanks!

ReplyDeleteHahahahaha
This is my first time entering the challenge. I got hurried on some of the details but, I hope you all enjoy my model. It's hard sometimes to find time for a submission but, I really enjoy the challenge postings. Everyone has done some great work. Maybe I will be able to compete with the regulars, but I'm not going to ask for votes; I will let my model do the talking. Good luck all!
ReplyDeleteIf people think that I cheated to win Challenge 057 Dam let me know and I will pull that model from the warehouse and drop from the challenge boards I do not vote for models because I dont care to. In my opinion everyone who enters is a winner just for the fact that they can complete a model, yes not all models are the greatest and some are a little better than others but in the end we are all using and learning new things on are favorite modeling program and the fact that my modle won by like 12votes says that either someone is scewing the votes to get the win they want or people actually like my model I dont really care. I have been entering the challenge for about a year and never have won or voted (unless it was for the next challenge and if that comes back i wont vote for that either) and never really cared... I just like to hear what people say about my models that is it and if I just start modeling the challenges and not tagging them with the challenge tags then I won't here what people have to say about my models. which will probably end my modeling days. sorry for the long post and I didn't cheat and if anybody thinks I did than do just like the clock challenge bump my model and give the win to Chrisbence "Dam thats big" and I just wont care any which way just dont call me a cheater.
ReplyDelete(cloudedzero)
I have pulled my models from this weeks challenge
ReplyDelete(cloudedzero) I Will Be Back...
well said, participating is more important than winning. I think there should be no more voting. I also dont vote on anny of the models anymore.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget !!!!
the purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program.
If you don't care about votes then; there is no challenge. I believe that the voting creates healthy competitiveness. Nobody should pull their model if they feel that they have followed all the rules and have created their model new within the week of the challenge. This is what draws me to the challenge; I want to see the quality of models that others can create in a short time frame. If you didn't have a competition it wouldn't bring me here. So I don't want to see anyone pull their qualifying models from the challenge just because someone else was questioning the fairness of the votes, especially a modeler as good as cloudedzero. By the way, my model is in the challege collection but, not listed on the blog page and hence; not available for vote. I was wondering if I can do anything about that or if I did something wrong when posting it. I would like to see how well it stacks up against the others. Thanks.
ReplyDelete@TinkerToy
ReplyDeleteIf your model weren't in the voting poll were my mistake. I've added an extra voting poll for your model.
@cosedimarco
ReplyDeleteThank you, for creating an extra voting poll for my model. I am glad my model can now be voted on along with the others...well, sort of with the others. I hope that I didn't miss out on any action while it was not up yet. Thanks again.
