3D Challenge #062 - Monster truck

Note: The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.
Before you start modeling and posting, please read carefully the 3D Challenge participating manual and pre-made or downloaded components are not allowed.

This week's challenge:

Monster truck
This time another 2 weeks challenge and you will be modeling a Monster truck. A monster truck is an automobile, typically styled after pickup trucks, modified or purposely built with extremely large wheels and suspension. They are used for competition and popular Sports Entertainment and in some cases they are featured alongside Motocross races, mud bogging, tractor pulls and car-eating robots.
Race field could be a nice thing to add.
Details and decorations are well accepted

Good luck to all, and have fun!!!

  1. General Notes:
There will no obligation for a blog entry anymore. It is still allowed to post a link to your model or additional images, but it is not required anymore to submit a model to the challenges. The 3D Warehouse tag is still required though and should be added when uploading a model to the Warehouse.

You can use the hyperlink code creator on the frontpage of the blog to create the code for a hyperlink in your message. Copy this code and paste it in the comment box on the place where your want the hyperlink to be.

Challenge suggestions are welcome to be placed on the blog. Items will be noted and compiled on the moderator’s list. At that point, the initial comment for the suggestion may be deleted so as to maintain a streamline challenge thread for use of posting entries for the challenge and comments to models. Challenge suggestions have always been welcomed and taken under consideration.

Please refrain from using background images in your models as it is the model itself that is being judged.

You'll notice a new link on the main page that directs you to the First Place Certificate area to which winners are able to print a certificate with a picture of their model detailing their excellence. You can access the page through the main page of the blog.

Remminder: This is a two(2) week challenge!

Found this site to help in design for your frames, does not give specs but you should get a pretty good idea on the design aspect of a frame monster truck frame

  6. I wish I could do this challenge this time, but I still have paid work to do. Unfortunately the website I'm designing doesn't require a model of Gravedigger or Carolina Crusher...

  7. @Trojan
You can't enter model made by other users, even if they have a lower filesize.
    Please remove them from challenge

  10. For Regis's model, it seems the wheels are to small to be a monster truck, we need another definition for monster trucks like a ratio of wheel diameter to truck height-length. Otherwise i can upload a full size car with wheels the size of a pea.

  11. @all the definiton of a monster truck

    Hooligan

that is all (I am Zorbo)

  12. Hi

    @ mr.jumpman.v2

It's not really a car scaled up to get big wheels.
The rear wheel is about 1,80 meter.
I just have minor improvements to had to get the right proportion.

Well, my pick up don't really have the same feeling with monster trucks but I like the idea to model a tuned monster pick up.
By the way I can go with another try and model a real monster truck but I'm not sure heving enough time to start another model.

  13. @ very cloudedZero: Where do you see boxey suspension? The shocks are cylindrical. Have you tried using the bottom part of your spectacles? before placing a sketchup comment?

    Cylindrical: rouuuuuund.
    Boxey: squuuuuuuuuare.

  18. @cloudedzero: thanks for changing your comment. The newer version is posted with special thankx mentioned to you. I've taken all of your previous comments, put them together, I'm no expert like cloudedzero, but trying. This version is a fairly large download. But I think worth it now. See you in the 3d Challenge 062 Voting, winners circle.

PS: CloudedZero: You've made a friend through this Challenge. Hard to explain it all here. I'll go to bat for you anytime. Thnx.

PS2: Thanks to all who posted on Francine... Numero Uno.

  21. Something just doesn't seem right about this. It appears that Jansen has won a second 3rd place award for: 'Mobil Station' in this 3D Challenge 061, having already been given the same award in 3D Challenge 060.

I think your model is the best. I only see one issue. Not all of the linkages have universal joints on their ends. The orange ones are just sitting in those slots on top the front and rear differentials. Just a minor detail. I still give 7 Stars!

  27. Clouded Zero---

i think that the model texture needs to be projected, and maybe a different color cause black doesnt go with alot of green, try like silver, black and sage maybe ( ultimatly its your choice )

    It's perfect now.

Sorry for bothering you agian, but i think that the wheelz should actualy have color in them to. You dont have to, but i'm just saying that to give some tips, but i'll stop now.
