3D Challenge #066 - Library

Note:
The purpose of the challenge is to have fun and bring SketchUp users together and help each other learn and get better at using our favorite 3d modeling program. We will remove comments that are objectionable or offensive.
Before you start modeling and posting, please read carefully the 3D Challenge participating manual and pre-made or downloaded components are not allowed.

This week's challenge:

Library

This will be a one week challenge and you will be modeling a Library. Try to think about placement and use of space for this model along with details that Library's have. Some of the older Library's have solid oak casings and high round ceilings and archways, while some have a more modern approach. Your Library design and style is up to you, just make sure to get them posted before the deadline!

Good luck with the challenge!

  1. General Notes:
There will no obligation for a blog entry anymore. It is still allowed to post a link to your model or additional images, but it is not required anymore to submit a model to the challenges. The 3D Warehouse tag is still required though and should be added when uploading a model to the Warehouse.

You can use the hyperlink code creator on the frontpage of the blog to create the code for a hyperlink in your message. Copy this code and paste it in the comment box on the place where your want the hyperlink to be.

Challenge suggestions are welcome to be placed on the blog. Items will be noted and compiled on the moderator’s list. At that point, the initial comment for the suggestion may be deleted so as to maintain a streamline challenge thread for use of posting entries for the challenge and comments to models. Challenge suggestions have always been welcomed and taken under consideration.

Please refrain from using background images in your models as it is the model itself that is being judged.

You'll notice a new link on the main page that directs you to the First Place Certificate area to which winners are able to print a certificate with a picture of their model detailing their excellence. You can access the page through the main page of the blog.

    HAVE FUN!!!!

  5. Are previous models made by yourself considered as premade components?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Sketchycat: Yes, premade models are considered premade components and should not be included in your model. You model should be made entirely during the time frame of the challenge.
    Good luck with your model!

Hello Unlimited Guy, nice to hear from you again.
As usual, nobody is obliged to take part in the challenge, but if you will, you can show us the best you're able to do in a so "simple" challenge. :)

  9. I think is challenge is great (yes..)

I already posted my model classy library . But as I noticed in the 3d warehouse, I hadn't enough time to work and improve the little details or even something like the door ... I'll try to find some time this weekend though ;)

@Jeff Myers® I agree to you, a museum could be awesome . I think everyone should like that idea because into the museum you can create what you like (e.g. sculpture, mumies, vases ...all which goes into a museum) .

In fact, if I create a pre-made component during the challenge's time, I could post it in my challenge's model and separately, right ?

    @ยภlเ๓เtє๔ﻮยץ
I think it's sometimes when you really don't know what to do and think the challenge's theme is so-so that you can get an awesome idea (work with constraints).
And if you think that theme is too simple, you could show us this isn't simple with a wonderful creation ! By the way, did you get an idea for the next challenge ?

  10. The challenges themes always get to someone's intrest, like if you're not interested in this one just wait. There should be a challenge you'll like.

Challenge 066 is a great challenge. However; one week is hardly enough time to create a complete and highly detailed model. Not all of us have limitless free time. Maybe you can extend the time available.

  12. @Dajani
Available time will remain One Week (this was the original time limit).
Try to optimize your modelling time to get the best you can ;)

  14. How come only a few us using SketchUp 7?

    ReplyDelete
  15. well I can't use it due to the materials they haven't updated yet. By the way we have to do a challenge for the holidays e.g. make a christmas tree if you celebrate christmas, make a menorah if you celebrate Hanukkah etc.

  19. cosidemarco, thanks for the advice, i am still working on a library, and i don't think it will be done by today, but look out for it when i'm done. I'm sure i'll upload :)

  20. Jeff, has something going there, a holiday contest would be in the festive spirit. Also, things in recent events of people lives would inspire them to share their story. For example, in the holdiday season, many people go on vacation so something like an airport challenge is in my mind.

  21. Hi everyone... this is my first 3d challenge. I built a library based partly off my local library, partly off my school library, and mainly based on whatever I felt made things work. The file size is pretty big, and I apologise for that, but I couldn't find a way to get the size down. Let me know what you think!
