  1. General Notes:
There will no obligation for a blog entry anymore. It is still allowed to post a link to your model or additional images, but it is not required anymore to submit a model to the challenges. The 3D Warehouse tag is still required though and should be added when uploading a model to the Warehouse.

You can use the hyperlink code creator on the frontpage of the blog to create the code for a hyperlink in your message. Copy this code and paste it in the comment box on the place where your want the hyperlink to be.

Challenge suggestions are welcome to be placed on the blog. Items will be noted and compiled on the moderator’s list. At that point, the initial comment for the suggestion may be deleted so as to maintain a streamline challenge thread for use of posting entries for the challenge and comments to models. Challenge suggestions have always been welcomed and taken under consideration.

Please refrain from using background images in your models as it is the model itself that is being judged.

You'll notice a new link on the main page that directs you to the First Place Certificate area to which winners are able to print a certificate with a picture of their model detailing their excellence. You can access the page through the main page of the blog.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  2. Hi,

Can we use our own imagination, or do we have to make an already excisting model?

    Greetings

  3. You should model an existing Mech. There are a lot to choose.

  4. Are the Gundams from the G Gundam series allowed?

  5. Happy holidays from the zero's

I personally have been into the gundam story since the late 80's then came dragon ball in the 90's but this show is still watched all around the world even the really old ones and if anybody wants to catch new gundam shows in the us check the scifi channel on animonday...

  6. I don't like this challenge, it's to specific to a single interest. Personally I have no interest in Gundam, so now I have to wait 3 weeks until another challenge...

I'm sorry yuo don't like the challenge subject and have to wait 3 weeks but like summer holiday, 3D challnge take a rest.
This could be considered like a bonus challenge.

  8. I will be skipping this challenge, but I still look forward to seeing what everyone will have submitted. The 3 weeks will give me time to finish modeling my yacht, my library and maybe even the police station (yes, I am still working on it 5 months later). Have a happy New Years everyone.

  9. I dont think i will enter, i tried making one before but it was crap

  10. I'm out on this one, I'm in partial agreement with "Anonymous". I think challenges should be of general interest and not on trademark names/brands/etc. If this challenge came out, I think a "Halo" video game series challenge should also be allowed. Happy new year to everyone :)

  11. OMG! A challenge that I'll definitely enjoy :D

  12. You guys might wanna add MAHQ.net to the reverence list.

  13. I just uploaded the WIP file of mine GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundam.
    Still a lot to do!

BTW, I've seen or heard of "Gundam", so it's a weird challenge for me.
    Hope you'll like the model.

    Greetings from The Netherlands

  14. edit: I've NEVER seen or heard of it! :D

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, I don't like this challenge too but a three weeks challenge is a great opportunity...so I have to wait three weeks but I would have been really glad if it was a theme I love.
And I quite agree with "Anonymous" and "ยภlเ๓เtє๔ﻮยץ" about a general interest .

Happy new year to all the world !

    ReplyDelete
  16. i must agree with most people on the fact of general interest. but when i first started making my first gundam ( and one of the few models i made by tracing another picture )i actualy am enjoying making it. so far it looks pretty sweet, but it is kind of dificult intersecting my technique with the gundam ( or as i call it, the "illsteir" technique )

i plan to be finished by the 3rd-5th of january 09.

    Mr.jumpman V.3

    @ whoever cares

    ReplyDelete
  17. Gee,... I wonder if the current version of JumpMan will win this one,... a good possibility, and if I recall correctly; the idea was suggested by him. Maybe if I want challenges to be in my personal interests,..I should make some suggestions for topics that I like... Yeah!,Thats it! I will stop complaining and make some good challenge suggestions. Sounds like a good resolution for this year, to me,... Anyone else?

  18. Challenge Subject was suggested by Cloudedzero

  19. Damn, that was a hell of a job, but I'm finished now. Writing this while I'm making some renders. Renders will be included, so the file could be bigger. Hope you'll like it. I think it's a great model :D

    Greetings

    ReplyDelete
  20. @ Henry Tenk
If you would like to lower your filesize and still show your renders you can use the free Google Picasa Web Album

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ COSEDIMARCO©

    Thanks, done that.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @HenkieTenk,
You did a very good job on your model. I would recommend using Scenes to feature certain viewpoints of your model much like I do. You could get the same effect of your renders by using scenes in combination with custom styles and layers. See my Soy-Use Rescue Pod for an example.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @ randomofodication
I'm sorry but your model can't be accepted. Purpouse of the challenge was to recreate a mech really existing in the Gundam Universe.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I suggest that every participant should add a link of the mobile suit's technical data/history from MAHQ or Wikipedia.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Jedi Charles

Thanks for the hint. I've made one file with some scenes, but now it's 11,5 mb. That's even worse than putting some renders in it. Am I using too large background-images? Or is it something else. (Too much scenes? (made 12 scenes))

  26. @Henkie Tenk

A few things that can help you make your model's file size lower.

    -making all parts into components

    -deffinitly not making animations

    -making the model symetrical

-re-using as many components as possible ( not recommended for people who like detail and hard work )

    -no textures

i hope this information was usefull to everyone.

    @all

wow, i just noticed ( from a rating ) that my model isnt a giant robot and its actualy just a suit... should have read the discription of the real picture. and by the way, im not done with my sazabi, still a little more to come, like jets and a gun.

    From- Mr.jumpman V.3

    ReplyDelete
  27. @admins

I think it would be pretty awsome if we have a fighter jet contest

    (A) because 99% of the people that do sketchup aer boys.

    (B) boys like things that look deadly and that can blow other things up.

and (C) because im smart and i know you should have a fighter jet challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Jumpman
What do you mean it's not a giant robot? Mobile Suits have an average height of 18 meters.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Heres my entry I just finished it.

I am Troopermanaic AKA Blah11 BTW

  30. @Blah11
Please add the 3D challenge tag to your model to enter the Challenge. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have a suggestion about future challenges:

Add another voting poll for the next challenge containing 3-5 ideas at the same time with the voting poll for the models.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @dajani

that's exactly what they used to do. ( untill the admins decided their omagination was beter, at least they still take suggestions )

    mr.jumpman v.3

    P.S.

wierd how i always type V.2 on accident befor i put V.3... kinda wierd...

    ReplyDelete
  33. @ Dajani

Mr. is right, but it's nao a matter of imagination.
Voting poll has been disable 'cause people started modelling before challenge started, just "imagining" wich subject will win.
Result was that first day of the challenge people published their finished models.

We had to avoid this, because challenge rules say "model must be done during challenge time" not before or after.

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Cosedimarco

Maybe if you create a voting poll for a theme without specific detail on what the model should be?

This way you can ensure that no one starts modelling before the set time and everyone gets to vote on the theme of the challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Happy Holidays to One and All.And a Happy New Year. This was a very difficult challenge for me. The subject, well, it was the easiest I could find other than those Wittle guys but not much on how thier back sides for reference. My very first Gundam is up. Not to good. Not my cup of Tea either, but still... practice makes perfect. Eye think? But now I'm hooked.
    -later.
    Onward.

    ReplyDelete
  36. @cosedimarco

I think Dajani has a good idea.
if im right this is an example of what he means

    -Jet 2 votes --

    -Robot 10 votes ---------

    -boat 6 votes ------

then once the poles are done, since robot won, you make , for example, a flying robot or a engineering robot. this way no one is gonna make a fighter robot for a flying robot challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I uploaded mine. The model is pretty much finished but I will still make a pose/scene of it using its beam sabers and I'll probably add the Hyper Bazooka, Orbital Hammer and Beam Javelin if I'll make it in time.

    ReplyDelete
  38. unfortunately the challenge debuted around the coming of KeyRist and I toured the local hangout: Forbidden Planet on Broadway but no luck. not even a comic. the cupboards were bear. shipments were supposed to come and didnt. but did see a Mother Ship (Ptylious) I think than saw a Union Flag. Partially broken. figures. nyc. btw the right arm needs a lift. hey that machine gun is heavy. even for a mobile suit... after download youLL see more of the thighs. Not much more but more. lol. And that helmet??? the ones with the thorns/spikey things, yikes. compound everything. I'll try to fix a few things if time permits...

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've uploaded my model again, but now with better scenes and more poses. Take a look and enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Henkie tenk, it looks cool but if you would fix the arms and head it would be great there is 3 days left so why not =]

About my sketchup model I wish the current model I am doing now was complete enough to add to the warehouse "Gundam RX78GP01" because its already turning out better then the RX-78 I made earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  41. @ BLAH11

What do you mean? What's wrong with the head or arms? Do you mean the last scene (attack mode)? Because the head is gone there? That's because the head must be inside the torso, where you can't see it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. no thats not what I mean, The arms are alittle bit too big and the head is kinda wrong though heads are the hardest thing about a gundam to make

heres a good closeup on the gundam

  43. @ Blah11

Ok thanks, I see what you mean.
About the head: Damn, that s*cks. Very difficult to get the right proportions. But I will try to make it better. Maybe the "scale-tool" will be enough. Same as the arms.
    Greetings

    ReplyDelete
  44. @ Blah11

Made the head a bit taller and more small. The arms are scaled to 90%

  45. I think voting should be brought back to the way it was before. If people starting early is an issue, than just hide the vote results until the winner is published. Te voting system helped select topics democraticly, which should up participation as the vast majority should be infavor building a model of the selected topic.

Also, I think the challenge needs to go back to being a 1 week challenge. 2 and 3 week challenges, while great every once in awhile, don't force contestants to model quickly, which in my humble opinion is the point.

If people really want to learn sketchup, than the challenge sould be even less than a week, as most of the sketchup stuff I do at work is done in a day (post production and design changes aside of course).

Things just haven't been the same since the voting left and challenges started getting longer. And judging by the fact that there's only 6 models in with a little more than a day for people to finish, I might not be the only one.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Added more poses to my RX-78-2. Please check 'em out :D

  47. A new and Final Gundam entry ~ Zaku ||. Char's main, battle tested, MS Warrior. Replacing skinny mini Union Flag (teeHee). A custom designed Variable Mobile Suit with intriacte detailed ScopeEye/BrainCell reviously posted is located inside the helmet. A bonus plus th spiffy Zaku colourations... a Rebel who stands out in a crowd.

  48. Good job everybody. May I leave the suggestion that, yes, general callenges should be the norm, and that the maximum period should be 2 weeks? Three just seems a bit out of hand.

Also, might I suggest we do something cool, like, a boat? I have been itching to have an excuse to build a trireme...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Posted my Core Base and Neo Core Fighter parts for the ZZ Gundam. I started Sunday, so it’s not as complete as I would like, but I hope you enjoy it, the final will be transformable, however this one is not to prevent piracy.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @cloudedzero,

I just checked the final models for #068 and I was surprised to see that you haven't submitted a model for the challenge, especially that you seemed so passionate and excited about this challenge.

    Hope you're ok man.

    @all

    Good luck
