3D Challenge #071 - Hamster Cage

For this challenge, you will need to model a Hamster cage. As most of you have probably seen, Hamster cages tend to have sporadic tubes, pipes and balls throughout them to allow the Hamsters to play in. It is not necessary to model the Hamster, just the cage itself.
Have fun and enjoy the challenge!!!

3D Warehouse tag: 3d challenge 071

Due Date: Wed, February 4th (Challenge Closed)

  1. Yeah, that was my suggestion. (LoganC we now don't alone when other people don't like it!)

I hope I have enough time to participate!

  2. Hey, I'm really surprised, I like that idea !

  3. It was definitely a fun idea, so thank you Henkie Tenk, hopefully people will enjoy it as much as we hope!
Also, both the 69 and 70 voting polls are now up. Sorry it took so long, but these task do take some hours to do, and we just try to get some done when we have some time.

  4. Sounds like a good challenge so I expect to see a lot of creativity. I would suggest creating various scenes inside your hamster cages to give us the perspective from the eyes of a hamster. I'll be sitting this one out to finish working on my golf cart and other various projects. I'll post the link to my finished cart when it's done.

  6. Well, that could actually be a good thing then. That means you'll be all rested up for the long hours of modeling you have ahead for this great challenge topic!!!
    Good luck!

  7. Hey wtf. Why is the hummer golf cart winning it is premade. You guys kicked me out for doing that. Fix it.

  8. I see that now. It says in the description that it should not be entered, but unfortunately, due to the limitations of the poll, we cannot modify them.
So, that leaves us with a few options.
    1) We could start the poll over, and just run it the remainder of the time.
    2) Just exclude that model from the list, so the next closest one would be the winner.

It's up to you guys what you want to do.

  9. also, in the description it mentions that other people helped with the model? i havent really been following any rule changes and feel completely free to correct me but waaaaaaaaay back when... im pretty sure that wasn't allowed. really cool model i started making the exact same thing but i didn't have enough time/motivation to finish it.

  10. Save time and leave the board alone and ignore his progress...

  11. It's true, it is not allowed.
Sorry, it was my mistake. I make BOTH polls on Thursday, a day after they were supposed to be posted, so I wanted to get both up as quickly as possible and wasn't really paying much attention to the descriptions. Just the titles and who made them.
So again, sorry, but like I say, from what little time we have, we just try to get things done in that time. And sometimes in the rush, we miss things.
Thanks for being understanding and I wish you all good luck!

  12. I'd like to know if my model could be accepted in this challenge because there isn't a real 'cage', because the concept is 'freedom hamster cage' then I decided to not create a closed cage... Is it OK ?
Otherwise I could add one ...

    Freedom hamster cage

  13. I like the model, it's a great idea. Though, it would be difficult to tell that it is a hamster cage by just looking at it.
I'm not saying that you necessarily have to add a cage, but some sort of boundaries or something might make it slightly better suited to the challenge.

  15. I'm thinking of stopping with this challenge-stuff. I've got the idea that you must invite people to vote for you. There's not enough interest in this site. (50 or 100 votes!) Look at my electric toothbrush, only two votes (one of myself) and that while it's technical above average. It costed me more time than I thought it would take. I will only participate with the challenge if I got a very good idea or when I like it very much or when there are more people voting. Now over to thing I really like to sketch! ByeBye

Ps. Can I cheat with an IP-generator on my pc? :P

  16. @ henkie tenk

if there were more voters would that actually make it better?

    a) all the extra votes are from people who haven't entered (assuming no-one is cheating) so they might not have the technical knowledge to vote for the best model.

    b) the votes would probably still be in the same proportions of votes for your model against votes for other peoples models.

way back when - when we were doing 'openchallenges' people could only vote if they entered and people had to give reasons as well. so typically there would be about 10-15 people voting. it was never a problem.

as for cheating couldn't you just make another (few) google account(s)? :P

*mutters to self*[i hate the voting system]

  17. as far as only voting if you entered I think that would be a very bad Idea, I usually don't enter(I don't want to make the mode don't have time ETC) I just vote for the best one, and I can tell which is better, since I do model and am Okay with the program. I think that the problem might be that people don't download and look at the models, and sooo, they vote for the one that is a peace of crap instead of the huge castle with every detail down to the tea cups on the counter, since you can only see part of it and not inside, this has gotten worse since Google sketch up got the option of viewing the model in 3d...
or so I would geuss, I mean look at one of the winners for the holidays one, a 2d Christmas tree? I mean really.....

  18. @owwliv

i hear what you're saying and i agree. but it can also be said that my idea for only voting if you enter has a couple advantages. it makes people [a little] more likely to enter and it stops people voting more than once [ie from 2 or more computers] to name just a couple.

    @all
anyone living in england being slightly freaked out/scared by snow? i live near london and i only have like 4 inches by my friend in cardiff has almost a foot!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm in Maine, about 4 feet of snow.
I must say so far I have not voted for anything but mine when I have entered, once I believe, but I really did think that was the best model, most people probably do vote on there own models, not to mention if I do not like the theme I may not enter but I almost always vote, I down load every model that I think I might vote for, and close windows in an elimination process, this is a good way to do it.

  20. coool,i 1 other vote from my'n

  21. @ other anonymous person...

are you 'Dig' by any chance. because theres no way anyone would vote for your model and it now has 2 votes.

whoever you are... you suck! voting for yourself, let alone voting for yourself multiple times ruins the voting system.

  23. Oh my freaking god, HOW do you know that he didn't get another vote from someone else?
I mean, it is not even the worst Model in this challenge. I mean compared with the 2D Christmas tree that came in second... well it is a freaking master piece, And I didn't hear any one complaining, at all.

    ReplyDelete
  24. And another thing, you say voting for yourself once, amusing you are only getting to vote once ruins the voting system?
how is that? if you think your model is a good one and you like the Idea (and how could you not) why not vote for it?
if only people who where entering could vote, this would be different, how ever that is not so, so if someone would explain why using your ONE vote to vote for yourself is a bad thing?

    ReplyDelete
  25. If you vote for yourself you are retarded...

Read the manual Dont Vote For Yourself...

    ReplyDelete
  26. i only voted for me once and the Manuel nothing on voting at all,
and i would by glad to change my bloody vote IF you can prove it is against the bloody rules!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Voting for yourself is not prohibited but is not very "kind" (I'm not able to find a more fitting word in English).

  28. I must say, I seem to be picking on the 2D Christmas tree a Little more than is maybe fair....
