SketchUp 3D Challenge #200 - Sci-Fi Movie Prop

Thursday, 23 January '14 - Monday, 03 February '14

This challenge marks the 200th challenge of the SketchUp 3D Challenge!
Thanks to all the volunteers and participants who have taken part in the fun throughout the past 6 1/2 years.
Science fiction movies have caught the imagination of moviegoers since the days of silent films, but, it wasn't until the 1950s when public interest in space travel and new technology that the genre really took hold. Along with so many of these iconic films were the unique props used to convey the story.

Challenge Requirements: In this challenge you are to model a movie prop from a well known sci-fi motion picture in the highest level of detail you can provide in the time allotted for the challenge.

Standard Participation Rules apply. Thanks to Danilo Vincenzo for the challenge topic suggestion.

  1. Hi,

What is a "prop" ? An accessory ? Which kind of accessory ? Does it include flying objects, weapons, vehicles, clothes ? Could you bring us an example please ? A friend of mine doesn't understand too...

  2. A prop would be an object used by an actor. It is short for "theatrical property". See: Theatrical Prop: Modern Usage. An example would be Luke Skywalker's lightsaber or the flux capacitor from Back to the Future. Clothing can also be considered a prop.

  4. Quick ? - are there specific thing that will be reviewed as part of the "modeling" competiton - ie: organization of layers, groups, components. Just curious on the level of detail of the review and how models are judged since this will be my first competition entry.

    thanks!

    1. Unlike a paneled competition with very specific guidelines for selecting a winner, the voting for this challenge is entirely subjective. It is important that your entry conforms to the rules but beyond that, it is up to the individual voter to decide what makes the best models.
