SketchUp 3D Challenge #139 - Seaplanes

Sunday, 11 March 2012 - Thursday, 22 March 2012

View Entry Models | Status: Finished

The term seaplane refers to any fixed-wing aircraft capable of taking off and landing on water. There are two main types of seaplanes are floatplanes (those with pontoons) and flying boats (those with fuselages that float). Both types may also have landing gear making them amphibious enabling them to use landing strips. You may model either type of seaplane or come up with your own concept. As long as it is a fixed-wing aircraft designed to take off and land on water, model to your hearts content!

3D Challenge Tag: 3D Challenge 139

The winner of previous 3D Challenge #138 - Roadside Tourist Trap is...
a.j.unknow with Toro de Osborne! The model isn't just the bull, it actually includes a roadway and an antique car in additional scenes. Great work and congratulations on win #18!

  2. Hi all, I thought that I would do another model seeing as I haven't done one, for ages and ages. Sorry about the size of it, it's due to the photos I used for texturing.

  5. I really enjoyed this one. Planes and Boats, two of my favorite things, all in one!

1st Crazy Eyes - Short Empire (I like the blueprints as paint. Whimsy is good)
    2nd a.j. unknown - Sikorsky S.38
    3rd DALEXD - Mosquito

and not to be obnoxious, JediCharles, but you closed the contest before the stated end time of Thursday the 22nd. I made another seaplane at lunch that I entered after it was closed. If it isn't valid, that's fine, I already have one entry, but still...

As to another idea - Power Generation. A way to make electrical energy, past, present or future

    thx,
    -RYKSUGA

  8. Ryksuga, you are right. I'm sorry about that folks. The reason why I put Thursday instead of the usual Wednesday is that I was late posting the challenge so I wanted to allow for another day. When it came Wednesday I completely spaced it and started the vote anyways. Any submissions on Thursday are still valid entries.

    I vote for:
3 points: Seaplane by Ryksuga - well textured, good modeling
2 points: Sikorsky S 38 by a.j. unknown - great modeled engine but body of plane and wings to could be more detailed
1 poin: Short Empire by Crazy Eyes - body of plane could be better but it looks fine

It was realy fantastic subject for competition, I wish I had more free time to make my own model.
