SketchUp 3D Challenge #149 - Fire

Sunday, 29 July 2012 - Thursday, 9 August 2012

View Entry Models | Status:   Finished

This challenge has to do with fire. Your job create a model that conveys the sense of fire, flame, heat, and/or burning. Because fire can be very dangerous and destructive force it is important to be responsible with your model. Your model should portray fire and flame is a positive light with respect to it's power. You can model anything that creates or contains fire or even something that extinguishes a flame. Just be sure that you don't run out of time on the challenge or you might get burned.

Thanks to Necron2.0 for the challenge suggestion.

  3. @GS, I had to add a day because I won't be here to start the vote. How long do think challenges should be? The main reason they are 2 weeks apart is to allow adequate time for votes to come in. If we can keep this level of participation up then maybe we can think about changing the scheduling.

  4. i would make the challenge form monday to sunday
and do the voting of the previous one between the same days
so having a winner every sunday or monday when the new challenge starts...but that is just me , what every one else think of that ?

what would be great is if we suggest challenges subjects when voting,
then the next challenge voting we would have to vote from a list of subjects..
    ex: 1st " " by .....
    2nd " " by.....
    3rd " " by ....

    sugestion: ?????.....

    subject vote 1st " "
    2nd " "
    3rd " "

  5. I've been thinking the same for a long time, I personally don't mind voting for a challenge when another one is ongoing ;)
I think that challenges are quite too long, even though it's true that sometimes we're running outta time..

As for future challenges, here I come with some original ideas :
    - Any kind of jewellery (necklaces, ring, bracelet), of course it coulb be something unreal/science fiction or anything that crosses you mind.
    - "Movie scene", modelling something that looks like (or actually is) a movie scene. It's kind of like an art installation, something poetic and artistic, the creation of an atmosphere.

  6. I think it could work week to week like that. It could be done on a trial basis. I am already extending the voting through to the end of the following modeling period so it wouldn't be too big of a change. It would increase my work load a bit. Sunday through Saturday would have to be the schedule. If I happen to be gone on a Saturday, which is rare, I wouldn't be able to start the vote on that day. That's the only issue I see. I can schedule the posting of topics but I am not able to schedule the vote comment or the ability to schedule modification the topic post to indicate voting has started. The way around that is for there to be a separate post for voting. It used to be done that way so it's not a problem.

We did use to vote on the topics but what ended up happening is that people would get a jump on the competition by starting models for all three model topics or whatever topic they thought would win before the challenge would begin.

I can post a poll on the site to see if people would want the schedule to change. If enough agree we can try that starting with Challenge #151. How's that?

  11. 3 pts Phoenix
    2 pts Kerosene Lamp
    1 point House of Flames

    future model: hydrofoil

  12. 3 points goes to Phoenix
    2 points goes to Dragon
1 point goes to the pokemon thing Chara Charmander.

My vote all went to those organic modeling since there are only a few of them.

However, I think all models deserved at least 1 point each because each one of them have their own uniqueness eventhough it was made plain simple.

    i want to suggest :
    A "go-every were/all terrain" vehicle

  17. It's really hard for me to vote since there were loads of stunning models!
However, I had to make a choice :
Three points go to "Hypocaust Reconstruction" by HenkieTenk, which was a surprising idea and I like being surprised.

Two points go to GoldenSim's PHOENIX, that were on top before HenkieTenk entered.

My last final point goes to the sweatest creature ever made :), that's to say "Chara Charmander" by mikZ , which definitely deserves its place among the best.

  21. The results of the poll on switching to 1-week challenges are in. 11 said yes, 10 said no. I don't think there is enough of a majority to justify a change yet. I could propose a trial run.

  22. its 50/50 between 1 or 2 week ..why not make it 1.5 week :)

  23. At least there would be no down time that way. We could do Sunday through the 2nd Wednesday and Wednesday through the 2nd Saturday. That would make them both 11 days.

  24. Charles I know I have not been able to submit much in a while but I am actively following you all. I missed the poll but I think the 11 days ideas
